COVID-19 Policy

As we are still facing uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic this document outlines the WWCC policy to continue riding safely as a Club.

This is a statement from British Cycling, providing guidance for clubs & their members to adopt.

British Cycling Latest Up-date - The Way Forward - 30 Jul 20

“Following discussions with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, we have revised our guidance so that clubs and groups are now able to ride ‘
one metre plus mitigations’ apart in all circumstances, in groups of six or fewer. The 'mitigations' listed by Government include being outdoors and being side-to-side (avoiding face-to-face contact), both of which are achieved in group riding.

Previously our guidance has been that riders from different households should remain at least two metres apart unless it is not safe or possible to do so, however we know that this often makes riding two abreast impossible and there are clear safety and practical issues with riding in groups of six single file. As riders are outdoors and not ‘face-to-face’ we requested that DCMS allow us to make this change and following their agreement groups are permitted to ride at ‘one metre plus mitigations’ in all circumstances with immediate effect.”

It is important that groups of riders operate within the latest government guidelines and keep up to date with any changes. Failure to adhere to the government guidelines could invalidate your insurance. In line with government guidelines, clubs’ cycling activity should not exceed group size thresholds (maximum of six people in a group at the current time) although multiple groups are permitted provided they are operating separately and social distancing is maintained.

We will continue to organise rides with a maximum of six members in each group, which has worked well in recent weeks. Each of the Ride Types, Fast, Medium & Steady will choose different cafes to stop at each Saturday, to avoid all groups congregating at the same café.

Another measure to maintain social distancing will be separate departure times for each ride type:-

Fast ride meet at Elmfield Gate at 08:15hrs for 08:30 depart, Medium meet 08:30hrs for 08:45hrs depart & Steady 08:45hrs for 09:00hrs depart. This will enable the ride groups to maintain their own ‘bubble’.

We will continue to ask members to complete a Ride Sign On sheet, which will be held and used as for ‘track & trace’ if required.

Thank you for your understanding and your efforts in keeping us all safe.

 WWCC Committee.
